2007 has been a year of achievements for Singapore. The economy grew by about 7.7%. The services producing industries expanded by about 8.1% while the manufacturing sector grew 5.8%. For 2008, Singapore’s economy is expected to grow between 4% and 6%.
Employment creation was 236,600 jobs in 2007, surpassing the record high of 176,000 jobs created for the whole of 2006 while unemployment fell to 2.1% in 2007.
In the few years, many more new jobs could be created if the economy grows 4%-6% each year as projected. Foreign manpower are needed to help Singapore achieve this growth rate. Of the 236,600 jobs created in 2007, 61% went to the foreigners.
