Having lived in 10 cities in China following job opportunities, landing in Singapore is almost a dream for Li Feng. The challenge of working on a big-budget international television production is something the 29-year-old thrives on. “I’m getting paid for doing the things I love to do!”

A day in my life

  1. 7.20am

Going to work entails a 15-minute bus ride and a 20-minute walk. That’s a breeze considering I used to do a three-hour walk-train-bus commute in my previous jobs back home.

  2. 8.00am

I smell roti prata (the Singapore version of the Indian paratha) when I get in - it’s breakfast day at the office. Once a week the company brings in breakfast for us, and it’s not just coffee and muffins, either. Great local fare that changes every week.

  3. 9.00am

I meet the supervisors to go over the feedback from the US. We check-in with our colleagues across the globe via webcam. They’re very impressed with the work we have done - someone says one of the rigs I made was “awesome”. I’m feeling good!

  4. 12.00pm

Time for lunch. Food is one of the most interesting things about Singapore, but I just can’t get used to some of those flavours... it’s a good thing there’s a huge range of Chinese cuisine in different styles to choose from, too.

  5. 2.00pm

My colleagues and I collect tickets to the cinema. One of the perks of working here is that we get two free movies every month. I enjoy going to the ones that ILM Singapore has worked on as we get to see our names in the credits. It’s an amazing experience, seeing your name on the big screen.

  6. 5.00pm

Need to wrap a few more shots, then it’s off for a quick bite.

  7. 6.30pm

Back at the office. The models are already in for our Figure Drawing class. I love art but have had little opportunity until now to study it, so this is something that I really look forward to every week. The sketching techniques we’re currently being taught add to our work skills, and that’s always a bonus.

  8. 9.15pm

Back at my flat. I’m sorting through photographs I took around the island last weekend. Photography is one of my hobbies, and I use the pix I take as references for my pet home-animation projects.

  9. 11.00 pm

Time for a jog around the estate. The clean streets and greenery make for a good run. I like many sports, but jogging is the only thing these buddies of mine here do, so that’s what we inevitably end up doing when we catch up!
