About Singapore

Singapore is commerce, industry, heritage, culture and entertainment all rolled into a little island of slightly over 700 square kilometres.

Here at the crossroads of Asia, Singapore’s excellent facilities and melting pot of different races, religions and cultures, make it an excellent destination for business and investment.

Excellent Business Environment

With one of the most stable political climates in the world, Singapore has invested most of its energy in developing commerce and industry. In less than half a century, the city has achieved many impressive economic milestones, in infrastructure, output and talent development.

According to the Global Competitiveness Report 2011/2012 by the World Economic Forum, Singapore is the most competitive Asian country, with strong trade and foreign investment. Singapore’s business environment has won accolades, for areas from our business legislation to government and labour relations. The World Bank has, in its Doing Business 2011 report, ranked Singapore as the world’s easiest place to do business. Singapore has established a sterling reputation in many industries, including finance, oil and gas, electronics, manufacturing, education, healthcare and IT. We also forecast for the future, and invest in new growth industries like interactive and digital media, biomedical sciences and clean technology.

This little nation is currently the busiest port in the world, one of the world’s most prolific oil refining and distribution centres, a leading supplier of electronic components and a financial centre in Asia, just to name a few accomplishments.

Outstanding Living Conditions

Singapore offers an ideal living environment, especially when you’re raising a family. Our healthcare system is unrivalled in the region, and our local education system, with an emphasis on bilingualism, is emulated by many countries. Those interested in enrolling their children in a school that abides by the system of their own countries can also approach the many international schools here.

Based on 2011 statistics, Singaporeans have a high literacy rate of 96% among residents aged 15 and over, and home ownership is nearly 90%.

Singapore’s crime rates are very low, at 606 per 100,000 in 2011. It is also one of the cleanest and greenest cities in the world. Our public transportation is well-integrated and convenient to use, and our communications networks are world-class, so getting wired up is easy.

And when it comes to entertaining, Singapore offers a good mix of business and pleasure, with a lively entertainment scene and global dining selections. A warm tropical climate of between the average maximum of 31 deg C and a minimum of 23 deg C means comfortable living all year round.

In short, Singapore is not just an excellent business location, it is also an attractive place to live in.
